OSIACA News
October’s polenta and chicken Pinochi and Stagnoli scholarships fundraising dinner will be held on October 19th from 4:00 to 6:00PM at the Elks Lodge on Herrick Avenue. Thank you to Bonnie DuMond and all who are working so hard to sell tickets.
Josephine Silva and Laura Lazzarotto attended the State Convention in Los Angeles in June. They gave a lively report on the experience during the July meeting. They both enjoyed it immensely and cannot wait to attend next year’s convention. Josephine raffled off a bottle of wine she won at the convention during our meeting. One of our guests (and prospective new member) Bob DelGrande, won the prized bottle of rose’.
Our member James Donzella informed us of the publication of his newest mystery novel in July. He had a reading and book signing of The Dead Don’t Pay at a launch event at the Morris Graves Museum of Art in Eureka on July 27th. The book was well received and reviewed in the Humboldt North Coast Journal weekly magazine. It is available at Eureka Books, Blake’s Books in McKinleyville, and on Amazon. It will make a perfect Christmas gift for reading during our upcoming rainy winter.
Finally, we mourn the loss of Eureka Lodge Treasurer Irene Simoni. Irene passed away on August 28th after a brief stay in the hospital. Since attending Eureka Business College in 1947 she had an outstanding career as an experienced bookkeeper. Her record keeping was always immaculate. She was preceded in death by her husband Gino in 1996. Gino and Irene’s father Angelo Lavagnino together owned L&S Beverage Co. of Eureka where Irene was bookkeeper and secretary. She had two children, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
The October general meeting will be on October 23nd at 6PM. I am sure there will be special Halloween treats. Do not miss it.
