Iris Rita D’Adamo
1938 - 2024

Iris Rita D’Adamo Born in the Marche region of Italy to Giulia and Alfredo Santi, Iris’ childhood was not easy but was filled with the simple joys of rural life on a farm with extended family. That, along with her strong Catholic faith laid the foundation for her nurturing spirit. Iris immigrated to the United States at the age of 15 with her mother and shortly thereafter was joined in St. Helena by her father and sisters, Julie and Anna. She graduated from St. Helena High School in 1957.

In 1956, Iris met Joe D’Adamo, a young Air Force private who had also immigrated from Italy. Their courtship and engagement mostly occurred via mail as Joe was stationed overseas. They married at St. Helena Catholic Church in December 1957 and raised five children together, building a successful business - Joe D’Adamo Tire. Despite facing many challenges, their 65-year marriage was a testament to enduring love.

Iris was the heart of her family and a shining example of faith, devotion, and unconditional love. She enjoyed being a mother and dedicated her life to her family. Her love for her children was boundless, and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do to make their lives better. Iris was delighted to welcome each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, becoming known as Nonna and Bisnonna.

Known for her exceptional cooking and love for her heritage, Iris often prepared regional Italian dishes for her family and friends. She loved hosting others at her table and had an amazing sense of humor with a beautiful laugh. In addition to cooking, she found joy in cleaning, gardening, sewing, knitting, crafting, and trips to the beach.

Iris remained close to her Italian heritage, sharing amusing Italian proverbs and finding joy in Italian music, especially opera. In retirement, she and Joe enjoyed traveling, going on two trips to Italy, cruises, and RV trips with lifelong friends and relatives. Iris was a devout Catholic and a member of the Sons of Italy for 32 years. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and compassion, making people feel loved and special. Sister Iris, you are and will be deeply missed. We love you, until we meet again…
